I’ve only recently (within the past few months) found all the size acceptance blogs and literature out there and have begun incorporating it into my life. I can say that I’ve been working on my self acceptance for longer than I’ve known about size acceptance. Having said that, I’ve felt such relief in finding other fat souls who feel as I do.
I absolutely love using the word fat now. For so many years I felt that fat = evil, fat = bad, fat = lazy, fat = stupid, fat = no self control and fat = unacceptable. It was almost like the word itself was a curse word. That’s what I was trying put in writing and couldn’t find the words!!! FAT = THE WORST INSULT YOU CAN USE TO DESCRIBE SOMEONE.
No descriptive term will upset anyone more than to call them fat. You can actually use the words “lazy”, “stupid” or “bad” but no word brings with it the feelings of disgust and insult that the word “fat” does.
Well, you know what? Fat is just a word. I am fat. I am fat and proud. I am fat and smart. I am fat and pretty. I am fat and talented.
Now say it this way: I am thin. I am thin and proud. I am thin and smart. I am thin and pretty. I am thin and talented.
Society would have us use “thin” and the good adjectives together and not “fat” and the good adjectives. That’s just simply ridiculous! Fat does not equate to stupid, evil, bitch, lazy or ugly! It just doesn’t. I’ve seen so many fat brilliant people in my lifetime. I’ve seen fat beautiful women and fat handsome men. I know some fat people who have the funniest sense of humor and I know fat people who are the most loving people you’ve ever seen.
Please don’t judge people based on their size. You could be missing out on some awesome relationships.

Oh yeah, you said it so well! This is what fat/size acceptance is all about (or should be, anyway).
Thanks! My life has changed so much since learning about true fat acceptance. The journey to get here was no easy feat but it’s been so rewarding. I just wish we could get the real support we need from society.
Maybe some day before I die…..
Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. It has a lot to do with attitude and personality. Most people think fat and ugly are the same thing, when they are not. FAT and UGLY are apples and oranges, they are both fruit and often are grouped together, but are two separate things. Although they both deal with the physical, fat has to do with health and ugliness has to do with lack of beauty. Fat people and even obese people can be (and often are) beautiful. Obesity is a serious problem in America, however, and should be taken seriously. “Size Acceptance” is fine for people that are healthy, but could give unhealthy people more fuel to feed their denial.
