I don’t know much about Kim Kardashian… but I did catch some recent photos that were released from Complex.com showing her before and after photoshopped pics for a magazine.
OMG, get your helmets!!!! CELLULITE!!!! <<cowers in corner with helmet and axe awaiting rampage of evil cellulite>>
…I’m proud of my body and my curves and this picture coming out is probably helpful for everyone to see that just because I am on the cover of a magazine doesn’t mean I’m perfect.
While I think it would be really lovely if a celeb refused to be photoshopped, I think the way Kim responded in a pretty cool way. I think it’s a shame that as amazingly gorgeous as she is that she still has to be chopped up via photoshop for some magazine cover. I wish more lumpy thighs were shown in the media, so women like me who have them don’t feel like such freaks of nature.
It goes to show what an unrealistically “perfection” obsessed culture we are that a woman that looks like Kim Kardashian has to stand up for her own body… sad, really. How much harder is it for the average woman to love her body in this environment?
As I say often, but never often enough… 😉 Whatever your size and whoever you are – you are beautiful!!! I challenge you, friends and readers, to own your beauty… as I try to own my own. 😉

Update:
Courtesy of the F-Word… more from Kardashian that doesn’t make her seem so cool about her thighs. Sigh. How disappointing…
What IS it with you and the helmet?
LOL!!
I think I may need one.
😉
The helmet thing… well, it’s an inside joke that I’m not sure if I’m allowed to detail – so I won’t. However, I’ve loved the visualization of people getting so scared of fat that they put on helmets. 😉 I’m sure I’ll use that one again.
It’s sad that cellulite is still seen as some kind of rare, diseased imperfection, rather than the very usual way the fat of most women’s bodies collect in particular areas of their body.
Even in the world of fat modeling and fat entertainment, you can be “pretty fat” only if you have no cellulite or are willing to put up with photoshopping (just check out ALL the fat swimwear/tank top/underwear models). Considering that cellulite is more common amongst fat women because the more fat, the more cellulite in general (though thin women also have cellulite, it’s just a way that fat collects like I said above), it’s considered rare, disgusting, and diseased, even in the world of fat modeling.
I have poor circulation and hypotension (which is a big risk factor for cellulite), so I have celluliite literally EVERYWHERE — thighs, butt, calves, upper arms, LOWER arms (less visible there), stomach. (some of this is the smaller kind of cellulite – you have to pinch a bit of fat — if it looks like an orange peel, you’ve got it!).
Many women have poor circulation, and these women are likely to have more cellulite on their body than average. But cellulite is a feature that while so common (75% of women have it), is mindbogglingly ABSENT from your average media representation of women, even fatter and older women.
I would love, love, love, LOVE just ONE skinny OR fat icon out there to keep her cellulite in her photographs and wear it proudly.
Ooooo… I didn’t know that poor circulation was a risk factor for cellulite! Maybe that explains the amount that I have on me. Until very recently, I’ve always had low blood pressure and crappy circulation. Thanks to my current meds regime, I no longer feel like I’m going to fall over every time I stand up from sitting or laying down.
Lack of cellulite was my big beef with the Dove campaign for real beauty. I don’t remember one of those chicks having cellulite… you’d think there would be at least one or two… but nope. Not a one (that I can remember anyway).
Ah well… until celebs allow their cellulite to be printed without photoshop, at least we have Adipositivity.
Well, thin girls have cellulite as well, just google “Mischa Barton Has Cellulite” (actually the first link on that page has hundreds of thin Women with the other big “C”) or check out this link;

You’re right, The NKS Blog Team! Cellulite is just fat. That’s all it is. It is interesting to explain cellulite to people. Here’s how I do it:
There is no cellulite.
There are thin sheaths of tissue (called connective tissue) that surround your muscles, fat, etc. If you have “cellulite” – it just means that, in that “ripply” area, you have less room to grow – your fat is pushing against the skin’s underlying connective tissue. It is just uneven fat distribution.
Also adding : It is normal!
I also see they lightened her skin all over. I agree it’s good that she’s open about the touch up job of the cellulite. Too bad that’s not what ended up on the cover, but it’s a step in the right direction.
cellulite as a term and condition was invented by Vogue in the 1960s. before then, it was simply considered fat.
Also, I believe I read once, that women have thinner skin than men, and that’s why fat is more likely to appear as “cellulite” on them. Thicker skin holds it all in place more smoothly.
It really IS just normal fat, it’s the skin and connective tissue around the fat that makes “cellulite” look different from other fat.
